CIEON HILTON · BODY VESSEL

CIEON HILTON
Cieon is a contemporary performance artist working out of Meanjin, Australia. Cieon's works offer an exploration of the liminal space between the body, consciousness and space, employing Butoh, poetry, ecological resonance and place-based performance honed over a decade of exploration and practice.

BODY VESSEL AND OKI DO YOGA
With a long background in Oki Do Yoga, Body Vessel offers both yoga classes and formal retreats. Oki Do is a syncretic form of yoga based on the teachings of Masahiro Oki. As a school of yoga, it combines elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine, East-Asian Buddhism and Indian Hatha Yoga, with an emphasis on play, corrective movements, breathing, and diet. Cieon completed her Oki Do Yoga teacher training in 2016  with Family Yoga in Tokyo and, in 2022, completed the first full translation of Family Yoga's Oki Do Yoga manual.

2026 JAPAN OKI DO YOGA RETREAT

Join us for an Oki Do Yoga intensive across 7 days and 6 nights (October 6 - 12) where you will have the opportunity to explore areas of cultural and spiritual significance and to be fully immersed in the world of Oki Do Yoga.

Oki Do is a syncretic style of yoga which explores Hatha Yoga, meridian therapy, postural alignment, Buddhist principles and traditional Chinese Medicine, as developed and integrated systematically by the founder, Masahiro Oki.

The first few days of this tour, we will be visiting the mountainous region of Nagano Prefecture. We will hike through the Togakushi shrines and participate in the morning ceremony at the famous Zenkoji Temple, a non-denominational Buddhist temple in Nagano city. We will then go to Tokyo to practice yoga with the Ishii Family at their studio in Kanda. I find the Ishii’s to have remarkable expertise in sotai (structural realignment), self massage, and strengthening and corrective exercises that help deepen asana practice. The final days of the tour will have us travelling to Ito on the Izu Peninsula and participating in a Yoga retreat. The Ito retreat will involve restricted food intake, alongside corrective and purification exercises, asana, and philosophy.
